Faster
When I was much younger I saw a fantastic film in the theater called "The Warriors." I loved the whole concept of the film. There was the pimp gang and the baseball gang and of course, the heroes of the show. That would be the warriors themselves. They get framed for killing sires and must battle their way through many of the city gangs and cops to make it home safe. I loved the action and the violence, plus the really cool one liner. Recently I re-watched the same film some 30 years later and found myself quite bored. The scene with the base ball furies chasing the warriors took forever. Had it really been so slow or was there something else at play? I understand that we live in a much faster paced world now and that we all have so much to do but I must ask myself, "Are we losing our attention spans?" How many things that used to move at a certain speed now have been condensed into a much shorter format.
Zombies for example, like in the classic "Night of the Living Dead" brought a whole new monster into play and it did it in a semi-documentary style. Haven't we all asked, "What would I do in the house? Would I have survived? The monsters were slow meandering zombies. Yes, you had to destroy the brain but they were slow moving reanimated corpses so how hard could it be? Then came the "Dawn of the Dead" remake and the "28 Days Later" series which put everything into overdrive. The monsters not only moved faster but the rate of infection also increased. In the original "Alien" movie it took three days to incubate the first alien. In "Aliens vs. Predator" this event occurred much faster. More recent productions show banana heads popping out of people’s chests within hours, if not faster.
The same seems to be true for the adult industry. We have all seen the shake and bake productions that look like they were thrown together in an assembly line with no consideration for lighting or atmosphere. Often sets are adorned with cheap blankets or sheets covering the apartment windows of these low budget films. I’m not saying that only high budget movies are worth watching. I have seen plenty of stinkers from their end as well. It's understandable they want to cram six sex scenes, which contains a lot of "acting" into two hours of footage because the four hour DVDs cost more to replicate. We all want to keep our costs down but you are sacrificing your product by cramming in an extra scene when you know better.
Maybe I’m off tract here but it seems to me, if we take the time to pace our product better then we will have a better appreciation for what we do. The most startling example of this was when I was showing a friend the new "Resident Evil" trailer. Three seconds into the preview nothing had blown up yet so he starts texting on his phone and misses the set up for the next event. He only looked up when the rock music kicked, at which point the bad guy was throwing his sunglasses at the camera. My friend then asked, “Why is he throwing his glasses?”
Maybe if we produced something better than we would not have to cram a bunch of gimmicky crap into our product just to keep our customers engaged for more than three seconds. If we don't, we may get stuck with "Ninja Porno Zombies from Space." Hmm... maybe I should check to see if that url is taken!

A word from Yariana
Desperate Amateurs
My name is Yariana. I am the producer of Desperate Amateurs, an adult entertainment website that features mostly amateur women who have never before been on video. Most of the men, women, and couples that contact us are seeking to supplement their income or to produce some form of base income. The current economy has resulted in massive company layoffs and widespread job loss. As the economy worsens, more people are applying for jobs and employers are paying fewer wages. It has become increasingly difficult for people to make ends meet and to support themselves and their families. As a result, many people are now choosing to do adult entertainment videos in order to make extra money to pay their bills.
Because of the stress due to job loss and inability to find new employment, many arrive at the video shoot under duress. It is my priority to put everyone at ease by providing a very low key, private, and sensual atmosphere in which to work. Prior to the shoot, we talk about whatever subject comes up. Most will share their reasons for wanting to do the video which almost always centers on financial need. Once everyone is relaxed and comfortable with each other, we do a short interview followed by the sex scene which usually lasts 2 hours total including the interview. I do try to make the video shoot fun. Working under stage lights gets hot so we take breaks, have a snack, and just talk and laugh. When everyone is rested we return to finish the shoot.
Our videos are produced from a slightly different perspective than many adult videos. We require no acting. There are no scripts or story lines to follow. Our members want to see real amateur people doing what they would normally do in their bedroom. If a person is shy, we allow them to be shy. If they are outgoing and wild, we allow them to be outgoing and wild. The atmosphere is free of pretense and is just plain natural and fun.
Because the video shoots are not scripted they do not always go as planned. Things happen on the set that we are not expecting. Equipment failure, lighting malfunctions, or maybe someone is not capable of performing due to nervousness. Whatever the case, we are generally able to make adjustments and make the shoot work. Regardless, we still post the video in all its glory, malfunctions or not. These things happen and it is my perspective that they add to the interest of the video shoot so why cut them out. Chopping up the video with all those cuts also makes the video seem disjointed so I just go with the flow. The natural flow of the video shoots lends to a more natural atmosphere as well. They hop on the bed and just do whatever comes natural to them and have a great tine doing it.
It is also my desire to see women really enjoy themselves. It is very common for women to feel they are not pretty enough or thin enough to look good on video. These types of self image issues we try to dispel. It is my belief as a female producer that all women are beautiful. We do not hire based on physical attributes. We hire based on financial need. Our members love and respect all our girls and guys. In addition, I emphasize a pleasurable experience for both the man and the woman. It is for this reason we are always looking for male talent that knows how to treat a lady and understands the art of sensuality. We love hiring couples who work well together. And for the single ladies that do not have a gentleman to work with, we provide male talent that will make sure they leave fully satisfied!
We currently film in the state of Oregon but work with people all over the West Coast. Though we do specialize in filming women who have never before been on video, we also do videos with people that want to work again. Many will request to do another shoot because of financial need, but often times they want to return because they had a really great time. We are also willing to film those with some experience in the adult industry provided they are able to be themselves.
To help those interested in working with us understand more about our video style, we do ask anyone interested to visit our website and watch our previews prior to setting up a video shoot. It has been our experience that those who watch the previews feel more at ease during the shoot. It gives them an idea of how we conduct the shoots, and they can see it is safe and fun, and that we provide a pleasurable atmosphere.
Though we do not require any particular body type, hair color, or other attributes, we do require good personal hygiene..We also require those we film to be of legal age and have government issued picture identification as proof of age.
We are often asked what clothing is required. We do not shoot videos requiring lingerie or any particular outfitting. All that is required concerning clothing is to wear what one would normally wear. People normally wear jeans and a T-shirt but we did do a video with an exotic dancer who really wanted to wear her short skirt and black leather thigh high boots, so she did. It is all about being comfortable in your skin and just being yourself. We recently did an artistic shoot in a harem setting which included a dance before the shoot. It was artistic and very beautiful. She was a returning girl so the shoot was design around the interest of the performer and created just to show off her talents. It was a lot of fun and we are hoping to more artistic pieces in the future.

Tales of the Desperate Amateurs

So there I was, nervous as hell. I was picking up my first couple to film. I had no idea what I was doing. I just knew that I had had it with asshole bosses. I also had no illusions about being an expert in something as taboo as filming porn.
She was not as pretty as the picture that she had sent me. It would not be the last time that this would happen. I picked them up in front of their trailer. She had been pretty once. You could tell that life had been really hard on her.
How had she found me? Oh yes. My early forms of recruitment were business cards printed on my computer. I used to stick them on phone booths. I had no money for advertising. I had to scrape together the cash to pay for my very first shoot. The guy that was with her had seen better days. He looked like a biker without a bike. He had to have been in his mid 40s.
I had spent the previous two weeks getting my film studio ready. Ok, it was a dining room with a fresh coat of paint and all of the furniture shoved into the living room. Ah yes. Let’s not forget about my high tech equipment at the time. Armed with a cheap Wal-Mart special camera shop lights from Home Depot, which on film give off a yellowish glow that make everyone look like they have a case of jaundice.
With paperwork signed and ID.s verified. We were ready to begin. Her stage name was Hope. I don’t remember his. This is going to happen I thought to myself. I was stressed and excited. M camera man J and I were ready to capture the movie magic.
So her top comes off and gets down on her knees in front of him. Cool, I’m finally filming my very first porn! I can finally quit my dead end job and tell my abusive boss to fuck off. I can make millions and go on exotic vacations. I can save money for my retirement. No more chewing on the other side of my mouth as a form of a dental plan. I can…hey. Shouldn’t he be getting hard by now?
Hope was doing all the right moves. This guy was not getting wood. J and I exchanged worried looks. What the hell was happening?! All the porn’s that I have seen had men with huge erections. It turns out that this is a condition that is really common in guys. I would say that 98% of men get stage fright. This is one rude awakening for the male ego. Some men bow out gracefully. Some leave in tears, but not this guy.
He started blaming her. She was doing her part. He said that she had an attitude. He was embarrassed. I get that. No one wants to fail on camera. O.K. let’s take a break I figured. She was really getting nervous and upset at this point. It had been a much longer shoot than I had thought. I was starting to panic at this point. J said he went to film school but all he was getting was wide angle shots.
I took over filming. She went down on him again. Maybe, maybe, almost, oh no! What am I going to do? At this point we had been on the set for four long hours. That was when J suggested that he pop on her face. This is not what I expected but what the hell.
So he drops his pants and is hard in no time. The look on her face was pure shock as he blew a massive load all over her face and hair. Whoa! I said. That was some load. I was happy to have gotten something but I was still physically drained from the whole ordeal.
I still can’t believe that I paid them both for that nightmare. It was a very painful and expensive lesson. That would not happen in today’s world. At the time I just wanted them off the set and that meant that I still had to drive them home. I don’t pick up talent anymore.
I thought this was going to be easy money. I thought this was the fast track to financial independence. I thought porn would lead the way to working less; that I would get to go to fancy parties. What I didn’t know was the hard work was just beginning.
